It was early 2007 when I was first introduced to the book “The Secret” and I immediately felt the need to put these principles to work. After all, I am a self-proclaimed “control freak” and the idea that I could actually control my outcomes in life was greatly intriguing to me.

My husband, my newborn daughter and I were living in an apartment that my husband and I lived in for nearly five years when we began to discuss our dreams of being homeowners for the first time. We discussed how we would love to own a home by the end of 2007 but my credit wasn’t in great shape and we had no money saved at the time for a down payment.

Nevertheless we started “window shopping” and spread the word that “soon” we would be looking for a home. One day we came home and on our voicemail was a Realtor named Debbie who said she heard through a mutual friend we might be looking for a home with no down payment and maybe she could help us.

Through Debbie we became associated with a mortgage broker who told us we would pre-qualify for 100% financing with a few repairs to our credit and that we could begin shopping now if we wanted to while we “fix” those credit issues. Suddenly, the Universe and The Secret had bulldozed us past our first obstacle.

I continued reading The Secret and applying the steps to my life daily, telling my family and coworkers that soon we would be homeowners. We found the perfect first home for us and put an offer in that was rejected by the seller. After we tried to counter-offer we found that the seller had entered into contract with another couple. We were devastated.

The emotions that I felt could be compared to that of a breakup or a death in the family. I was crushed and deeply saddened as I believed so much that this was OUR house. I decided to get positive and continue believing as The Secret says to do and I told my mother “No worries, this house is still ours, somehow. I just know it!”

I began writing out envelopes with my name and the address of the house we wanted as the return address, knowing that someday I would send my bills out from that address and kept them where I could see them. I reviewed the listing time and time again and picturing my furniture in each room of the house.

My husband and I continued our home-shopping always with this home in our minds and eventually we placed another offer on our second favorite house. Two days later our Realtor called and said “Great news! You got the house!” We thought he meant the second house we were waiting to hear back on but then he said “I mean the first house! You have it if you still want it! The other couple couldn’t get there financing and now the seller wants to accept your offer!”

I will never forget the feeling when that call came. I knew then that The Secret had not failed us!

It was only a few days later that my husband would also experience the “magic” that I had been trying to share with him all those months while reading The Secret. After finalizing our offer and faxing it to the seller who was in another state, 48 hours went by and we still didn’t have a signature from the seller that would finally place us under contract.

My husband was losing patience, wondering if this deal would fall through yet again but I assured him that The Secret would take care of us. That very day he went to work and was working a shift with a woman he didn’t know very well who usually worked a different shift. My husband was very distraught at work that day and this coworker asked him what was wrong. After telling the woman that we were waiting to hear back from the seller the woman asked him to describe the house to her. After he described the home in great detail the woman raised her eyebrows and said “…wait a minute. Are you talking about the Brownson Street property?” My husband said “..yes, how did you know?” To which she replied “My mother owns that house!”

She made a phone call to her mother that instant asking her to please sign the papers and get back because she just met the nice young man who was waiting on her signature.

We have lived in this home for nearly 2 years now and in a matter of 4 months time, The Secret took us from dreamers to first time homeowners and no obstacle that stood in our way was any match for the powers of The Universe. So many people and things were “rearranged” so we could have this home. I thank the Universe every day and have experienced so many magical things since discovering this amazing power.
