When my husband and I were given a chance to come to Alaska, we got here using methods like the Secret even before we knew about it. We put pictures of Alaska on the ceiling over our bed, and we talked about Alaska every waking moment. It took 8 months, but he got a job in Anchorage. They paid for our move (it’s a good thing because we had both lost our jobs and were living hand to mouth for 8 months before that). We cashed in the equity on my car and drove the Alaska Highway to get here.

Our dreams back in Oklahoma had always been to live in a log cabin home on a couple of acres of land in the mountains in Alaska. The first two houses we lived in were just what we could afford. We kept working at our credit and paying off debt, not really knowing what would come later.

About a month ago, he was a little depressed and having a bit of a bad day. I decided to drive up into the mountains of the amazing Chugach National Forest to see what houses were for sale up there. We had been living at the foot of the mountains, which was beautiful enough. But where we were living was not our dream… not completely anyway.

I took him for a drive that day, and he suddenly said, “STOP!” We stopped in front of this house we had seen for sale before, but it had been so expensive we just couldn’t imagine a mortgage like that. He took a brochure, as I was getting this very strange feeling. Something was happening. I had just seen The Secret only a few days before, and I had put some affirmations on an mp3 player that said, “I live in a log cabin home in the mountains in Chugiak in the Chugach National Forest, with a wrap-around porch, 3 stories high, on 2 acres near a creek, worth such and such amount of money.”

This house was EVERYTHING in my recording. There was not one detail out of place. And there was even a hot tub!!!!! (good for Alaskan winters) And they had dropped the price $100,000 because the market was a little slow, and the owners were ready to leave quickly.

The realtor said, “Go up to the house. The owners are there, and they will be glad to show it to you.”

While we were walking through room after room, I was getting tears in my eyes. It was everything I had dreamed about back in that dark place where dreams started in Oklahoma. It was my dream come true. But I said to my husband, “I don’t know if we can qualify for this house, even if they did drop the price!”

But we did – only a few days later. And it was based on us selling our house we presently had. Which we did, a week later. I kept saying, “This house is already sold. The owners are on their way over to sign the paperwork.” And in a market where houses have sit for 6 months, even 2 years (the house we’re buying was on the market for 6 months), we sold our house in ONE WEEK. I used everything I knew about copywriting and just wrote an ad on Craigslist that helped the buyer to understand what it would really be like to live in our house… with moose walking through the yard and northern lights overhead and peace and quiet.

And the house we’re buying is right on a creek, and it has privacy all around. Everything we dreamed so hard about.

I now get paid to write those ads on Craigslist that sell houses, and I also film virtual tours now for realtors. I feel like it is my way of giving back and helping the economy to come back. And my way of giving back for the gifts I’ve been given.

… So, we’re a week away from closing on our dream house, and everything I’ve seen in my mind has come true. And I had only been listening to my affirmations on my mp3 player for 24 HOURS WHEN WE SAW THAT HOUSE!!!!!!
