In 2018, I discovered The Secret. For years my husband had been battling depression and PTSD, compounded by financial dependence on my small Social Security income. It had eroded his sense of self-worth and added to marital discord. I was at my wit’s end when I ordered the video. It was amazing! I made my husband watch with me that next day!

I then ordered all the books and started reading. My husband was losing his sight to cataracts, so I was reading it to him as I marked up the important ideas. We took the books to his therapist and asked him what he thought, and if they worked. He read them and started changing his approach in therapy. Three months later, the supervising psychiatrist encouraged us to keep going. My husband was finally responding positively to therapy. At about the same time, the State of New York finally discharged a child support order for his children which had grown incorrectly since they were married years ago. It was a $70,000 financial threat removed.

Then, with the help of a state worker, we applied for his disability income from the VA, and in May he was finally determined to have a 100% service-connected disabled. His income now covers all our bills and the repairs that we needed for our house were covered by his back-pay check.

Then, just this past Monday, we were notified that under a new law, all his student loans would be discharged without a large tax liability at either the federal level or state level. That was something we had been concerned about when he got his award. That was a $125,000 liability that just went away. We also learned that my loans could also be discharged, and I am now in the process of doing that. My loans were about $170,000. In total, we had over $300,000 in debt, which is now gone!!

Our home repairs are done, our debt load is now greatly reduced, and we have a new car as well. We are now working through giving back when we can through helping others with rides to doctors, small cash gifts, supporting charities, and offering help as needed in emergencies. Our wealth is growing each day, both financially and spiritually. My husband is now happier and I am now less stressed.
