Although my job was a very basic one, I liked it since I was happy to be working. I had no regrets of not getting a job at the manager level which I had left back in my home country. My husband would push me to apply for more jobs but I told him I wanted to wait for 5 years until we got our citizenship and then apply for a government position. I told him I would stay in my current job till I got my citizenship and then I would get a government role.

At that time I had no idea how it would happen. I had no contacts or guides to help me in the process. We got our citizenship in 2020 and due to the COVID situation, the job market was pretty bad. As soon as I got my citizenship, I updated my resume on the temporary register of the department I wanted to work in. There was no other advertised position there so I just updated it on the temp register. Then a few months later at the end of the month, I got a call for an interview. It was another month later when I got an email to confirm that I was selected.

I was going to be starting my new role in 2 months in 2021. So just like that! Just by truly believing, I made this job manifest only for me, and I am so grateful for this opportunity.
