I first heard about The Secret through Oprah, thought it was an interesting concept but forgot about it until I picked up the book a few years later. I put it into practice for many things over the years, you could call me an LOA dabbler. A few years back under the guidance of a LOA practitioner I wrote my list for my perfect partner.

You see, at the time I was in a stagnant relationship that was over while I was still there. The love was gone but I held on with both hands for dear life in hope that he’d want to get married, buy a house and have a baby. I was asking for any sign of commitment. That’s not how I wanted my life to be though. The begging and pleading did not feel good, the constant arguments and silent treatment did not feel good. None of it felt good but I gripped to hope that it would change in the future.

This list changed my life. I wrote 3 pages of things that I’d like my perfect partner to have, things like, I’d love him to have a sense of humour, I’d like him to want to do things with me, go for long walks, I’d like him to have his own house, I’d like him to treat his family well, I’d like him to make me feel like the most important person in the whole world. I visualized this for a few months, looking into the eyes of strangers, asking myself , is that him?

Two months after I wrote this list, I found myself living with my friends after leaving my ex. It was a difficult thing to do but I kept faith knowing the LOA was working for me. My perfect partner was out there! And he was a lot closer than I thought!

In arrives Dan. He was an acquaintance to start, that I had known for some time and then we went on a few dates. I didn’t see what was staring me in the face. He was keen but I pushed back, saying it was too soon to start seeing someone new, I wasn’t ready, etc.

I may not have been ready but the universe had other ideas. After 3 dates, I called it off on a temporary basis but Dan didn’t see it this way. He was hurt because he was starting to like me. A few days later I looked through my book again and saw that list. Dan matched every single thing on that list!! I made gentle contact to start until he was ready to see me.

And the rest is history as they say, and guess what??!!! We just got engaged!!! I can honestly say I have never been happier. I genuinely didn’t think there were people in the world like him, he’s something special. I’ve got no doubt that the LOA brought Dan to me, thank you, thank you, thank you!
