Ask and you will receive. Seek and you will find. Knock and the door will be open to you. I just had to ask.

I graduated from Law School in 2010 and for eight years after that I worked in many legal support roles but never as the lawyer that I am or went to school to be. It is like going to Medical School but working as a nurse. My heart’s desire for a legal attorney position was really strong.

I was employed at a company with great pay but I still wanted to get into the legal department of that company. So when a job posting came up for a position in legal, I became very excited. It was exactly what I wanted to do. I applied for the position and took my maternity leave and because I was gone for three months, I did not believe that the position would still be open.

Lo and behold, the position had not been filled for the 3 months I was away! So I picked up my belief and kept confessing repeatedly, that the job is mine and I accept the offer to work in that role. There were times  that I had my doubts and I would then remember what one of the attorney’s told me. She said I was not qualified for the job. I decided to block her voice and focus on my strengths and ability to learn quickly.

Today is a happy day for me. I got a call today confirming my offer, which was way above what I had anticipated. After 8 years, I can finally say I am working in a big firm as an attorney. When you ask and you believe that you will receive, then you will.
