“Do yourself a favor – expect a check!”

CairnsBorn in Oz, grew up in UK & Europe, moved back to Oz on my own 20 years ago.
from P.72 of The Secret, this is my fave line in the book when I read it I laughed out loud, thanks Lisa Nichols – you hit a chord, very funny… and it worked!
I have a share-house in Cairns and I was cleaning up after a few people had moved out and I found this book – I’d never heard of it or seen it advertised or watched the movie – it was just a book. I am a graphic artist by profession and was immediately drawn to the beautiful artwork, paper, the size and tactile feel when I picked it up, lavish print 6 color with matte varnish on every graphic image throughout, just a masterpiece – just a gem of a book that I coveted immediately and sat down to read (to this day I don’t know who left it behind but thanks so much.)
I started reading and became a bit skeptical after a few pages in – but the design of the book pulled me in and I just couldn’t put it down. Anyhoo when I got to page 72 with Lisa’s quote about bills and checks – after I’d finished chuckling – I made a conscious decision to do myself a favor and expect checks instead of bills. Guess what? Within the month I had a check through my letterbox from an old insurance policy I had taken on when I bought my first house 26 years previously, for $5000. Then a few weeks later I got another check from them saying they had made a mistake and I should take this check for another almost $5000, then a few weeks after that I started getting royalty checks and paypal payments for my songs that I had been trying to sell to various companies in the U.S. for the past 3 years… simply amazing.
Hey, I’m no expert yet but it’s really made me re-evaluate all of the good things that have happened to me, and the bad over my life experience so far and think about each and every poignant memory I’ve had and I’m really starting to get it… you truly do get what you ask for – think and feel for the good things and educate yourself to avoid the bad 🙂
P.S. Very recently Cyclone YASI was threatening our community and we were all ordered to evacuate to designated shelter. My neighbour and I decided to ride out the storm together in her solidly built apartment (my house is weatherboard and in a category 5 one can expect it to blow away. I have a dog and she has a cat and no pets are allowed – so we sat down together while the Cyclone approached and talked and it turns out she knows the Secret and we talked about that for a bit & then started to panic and then calmed down when the power went off and we talked under candlelight about sunnier days. The cyclone abated – and three days later we both got a check for $1000 in storm relief payment… totally unexpected and out of the blue! And to add to the story we are now good friends!
Thank you Rhonda and to your daughter and a shout out to everyone who helped & inspired you to share,
Jamie
