Timing Is Everything

Albany, NYI am a 58 year old widow, whose life has been upheaval after upheaval. I have always dealt with each crisis and never once asked, "Why me?" I actually lived The Secret without ever having read it. I am one very happy person, who has often gotten what she wanted and never quite understood why it all came so easily in an otherwise difficult situation. The small exposure I have had to The Secret makes me realize that I have been living it all my life, from childhood through widowhood.
When my beloved husband of 21 years was diagnosed with cancer, we both had the horrible realization that we were on borrowed time. But instinctively, I knew that the time we had left would become our BEST time.
Although he went through surgery, radiation, chemotherapy, and even lost all of his hair, he never once complained of pain. He simply did not have any pain. Yes, he was tired quite a bit of the time, but never, never complained of, or felt pain. I attributed this to his sense of denial, a sense that he would not die from this dreaded disease, or even let it take him down at all, not realizing it was MY desire that he experience no pain. I did not ask that he live forever with me, only that he be able to die pain-free.
We both fought this “fight” if you will, with our firm belief that we had control of it and ourselves. Our love grew stronger, and he never weakened until the final month of his 2 and 1/2 year trial and tribulation with the disease. He was on the golf course 2 days before his organs actually started to shut down, and he slowly slipped away from this life.
I lost him, physically, but he is still in my life daily. I decided to move out of the house we purchased for our retirement only 2 years before he became ill.
When I made the decision to move, I placed my home on the market in a very difficult “down” time. It sold in 9 days, and I received a full price offer with no dickering at all. My buyer wanted a 30 day closing, and I had not yet even looked for a place to move to in my new location, since I assumed a buyers market would give me all the time I needed to relocate.
After I received the offer, and entered into a contract, I drove 5 hours away to search for what I wanted. I knew I wanted new construction in a condo, where I would have no outdoor responsibilities. I found exactly what I wanted, when I contacted a Realtor who showed me 10 condos in one afternoon. I bought the very first one he showed me. The building was already built, but the interior was all I needed to choose from. It was ready for me in 6 weeks.
I prepared to move all of my life belongings to my new location, and put the word out that I needed to network to find a job 300 miles away from where I started. I was able to secure an interview in the short time in between leaving my old home and settling on my newest one. On the day of settlement on my new condo, as I sat at the table signing papers for ownership, I received a phone cal that the job was mine.
Timing is everything. All things I needed came together in a way that could not have been any better. I saw it, and it happened. Today, I work in a job that I love, with people who are kind and caring, in a shelter for homeless women and their children. When I left work, one afternoon, one small boy called after me, “I wuv you, Miss Mauween, I wuv you.” Who could ask for a better life than mine?
I see it, and it is good!
