My dream came true
Submitted by: Sharmila, M.
South KoreaMy name is Sharmila and I am 29 years old. I'm the youngest of my 4 siblings and share a special relationship with each one. I am currently living in South Korea teaching English as a foreign language. Prior to teaching English I was employed as an auditor with a top professional services firm. My birth place is South Africa. But it has been a dream of mine to live in a foreign country and experience life in another country. And 'The Secret' has helped me attain that!
My story began around 2008. I had heard of the book from friends. I love reading and so I decided to get the book. I had purchased ‘The Secret’ and had read a few pages and because of work commitments I had never completed the book.
During May 2009, I had got mumps which meant I had to stay away from work to recover, so then I could catch up on my reading. And once I started reading, I was unable to put the book down. I completed it in one day and felt so energised.
I also started a gratitude journal and began writing all of my thank you’s, thoughts and goals. My gratitude journal always cheered me up. Some days when work was stressful, I would read my past entries in my gratitude journal and it always made me smile.
My goals became clearer to me. I knew I always wanted to live in a foreign country and just experience life differently. I also had one remaining exam to qualify as an auditor. I wrote these goals down and decorated them with different colours of ink and stickers and I stuck this on my wall. I spoke out to the universe and asked for this.
And amazingly it has all happened. I was accepted late last year to teach English in South Korea for a year. I also passed my exam and have qualified. I resigned from my previous employer on good terms. The rest also fell into place. My car got sold and tennants were found for my apartment. The journey has been amazing. And every day I am grateful for all things that life has given me. I feel I am living my dreams and I am so grateful to have read the book and be able to share my experience with others. Thank you!
I sincerely believe that one stops living when one stops learning. And I am here to learn as much as I can!
