A Home for My Family

Naugatuck, CTI have always been optimistic and my motto has always been, "It will work out because it has to." I was introduced to The Secret by my boss about 3 years ago and have recently reread it and have been working to apply the principles to my life.
I was living in the parsonage of our church while they searched for a pastor. It was mutually beneficial as the rent I payed was nominal and the house wasn’t vacant. After two years, I was told in October that I needed to be out in one month. I asked for 6 weeks because I wanted to move over Thanksgiving as I couldn’t take time off before that. I was immediately granted that. I began to search for apartments that I could afford. There weren’t many. I also had no money to put down as a deposit. My credit wasn’t great and I don’t make a lot of money. I believe that being happy at work is more important than a big pay check.
After 3 weeks a friend of a friend told me that there was an opening in his building. I went to check out the layout of his apartment before I called. It was perfect. Only a 1 bedroom for my daughter and I, but with a separate dining room that I could put a bed in so we could each have our own space. Heat and hotwater were included and so was Direct TV. There was a gym and a playground. It was perfect and affordable. I immediately filled out the application. I was rejected. I wasn’t going to accept that. I called the office, she told me I could get a co-signer. Easier said than done.
I was adamant that I wanted to do this on my own. I called the MAIN office that oversees several apartment complexes, including mine. I told them that I didn’t have a co-signer and that I was going to live in that apartment so we needed to work something out. I was told that with 1 month of rent and two months security, I could move in. Somehow, I managed to get the deposit I needed (a friend paid back a loan and the place I was living waved some rent). It all came together and we have been here 6 months and we’re really happy.
