Let it Snow

Houston, TXMoved here from Europe when I was very young. Things have not been easy but God has been with me every step of the way. If you feel like everyone has left you...know that he is still with you!
This story is rather long but worth reading. It shows you to never give up no matter how little or big your wishes are!
Back in 2003 I was married to a man I was not in love with. The only reason for my being in the relationship was that we had a child together (I already had one from a previous relationship). He always gave me expensive gifts (what I consider expensive) for Christmas and my birthdays to show his love but what I needed most he could not give me, affection. In short, he could only tell me how much he loved me but could not show it. He was cold to the touch.
The only way this relationship was bearable for me was to concentrate on the happiness of my children. I did not have a lot of love growing up but I wanted my children to always feel loved and happy. I would do anything to see a smile on their faces.
Then on Christmas 2003 we opened presents as usual. I don’t remember what my husband gave me but I am not the kind of person who can justify throwing out money just because it’s Christmas so I told him that the following year I did not want him to get me anything because what I wanted he could not give me. I wanted “snow” for Christmas, so my kids could see it and feel it.
He started laughing and told me “Good Luck”. Yes, considering that we lived right outside of Houston, Texas it is kind of unrealistic considering it hadn’t snowed in this area in over ten years, but the way I looked at it was nothing is impossible for God.
With a big smile on my face I declared it out loud “God, next year on Christmas Eve when the kids start opening their presents I want it to snow, that’s all I want”. Talk about precise. I put my order in giving the date and time. I left no room for guessing!
So throughout the year each time my husband talked about getting me something he sarcastically said “Oh, I forgot you don’t want anything because you’re getting snow”, ha, ha and continued to make fun of me. All I did every once in a while say “Thank you God for giving me snow next Christmas Eve”.
Fast forward to Christmas Eve 2004, it was a day like any other. If you know about the climate in Texas it doesn’t get that cold during winter. The first thing he did when he got up was look outside and told me “Doesn’t look like you’re getting your snow today”. However I didn’t care, I knew God still had time. Yes, the weather was fairly nice. The weather report did not mention a thing about snow so odds were against it but what happened next blew everyone’s mind, except mine because I already knew.
It was late in the afternoon the kids asked if they could go ahead and open their presents, so I said yes (They always open them around the same time of the day each year). At the same time my husband went to open the patio door a bit more. He had opened it slightly 10 minutes earlier because of the cooking that was going on in the kitchen. As he pushed the door open a little more he told me, come here, you gotta see this. But I thought he was just making fun of me again so I didn’t get up at first so he said it again. I reluctantly got up and walked to the balcony and what did I see? “IT WAS SNOWING” YES, GOD GAVE ME SNOW JUST LIKE I HAD ASKED FOR! The kids and I ran outside and they saw and felt snow for the first time it was magical. That day I felt God’s love like never before.
To everyone who has dreams and wishes in their hearts…NEVER give up on whatever it might be it might not mean anything to anybody else but if it does to you then stick with it even when things seem impossible!
