My dream is coming true!
Submitted by: P.M Flores
Northwest, FLI joined the military at the age of 19 and served a little over 10 years on active duty. While on active duty I was stationed in Hawaii and it was the best three years of my life! I met my husband there but after our tour was over I was sent to a very small Navy base in NW Florida.
The work I had to do in the military was so mundane and I had absolutely no fulfillment and felt stuck. In October of 2008 I bought the Secret and read it. I also created my vision board, which included a Master’s degree that would allow me to be a counselor of the military, living in Hawaii, and making the same amount of money as I had while on active duty. I started to feel a renewed sense of power over my life. I decided to separate from the military. I really wanted to be a counselor, not a financial services technician.
Unfortunately the program that I needed to get into for my Master’s degree was not offered. I found out that the local university was starting that program, so I applied and forgot all about it. As my separation date got closer, I started to panic. Nothing in my plan was working out and I thought about the Secret again. All of a sudden I got a call from the university advisor on the absolute last day to register for class. She helped me get what I needed done within 30 minutes and I was registered in the master’s program.
Following my date of separation in January I was desperately looking for a job. I had always wanted to work in the family readiness center on-base. I was very sad one day because I had applied for 20 or more jobs and no response. Finally I remembered that the director of one of the centers had told me to give her my resume to keep on file about 6 months prior which I hadn’t done. I walked in and asked to speak to her and she pretty much hired me right on the spot. It was an entry-level position, but I was glad to have a job.
I really wanted to make more money and actually directly help others. I kept looking to The Secret. After four months, a better paying job at a different base in the area came open and I got it. That salary combined with the new GI Bill allows me to bring home the same income I had while on active duty. Last Friday I also found out that after my husband does a year in Korea that we will be moving back to Hawaii as we have dreamed about for the past 3 years. It just so happens that our moving date is the month after I graduate with my master’s degree.
I have also been dreaming about owning a Cadillac CTS. Well we can only ship one vehicle to HI and we are talking about trading both cars in for the Cadillac, which would also decrease our car payments and our insurance. Everything is working out and things are falling into place. I am truly grateful! Thank you Secret! I thank the universe for all of the abundance in my life and try to keep a positive attitude.
