I’ve been doing it all along!

Milwaukee, WI30 something, regular middle class American, married, homeowner, no children (yet!).
I first discovered The Secret one afternoon watching the Oprah Show. It was pure coincidence that I was even home that day to see it (or was it!?). My husband and I had been having some troubles just before that show aired, and it was just the thing we needed to get back on track! I watched the show mesmerized by the stories and what The Secret can do. I rushed right out and bought the book and the movie.
I read it over and over, my husband and I watched the movie at least once a week, and I actually felt something in me changing. Not that I was ever a real unpleasant person, but it just did something to me inside.
I started thinking back to my childhood and things that happened that I knew The Secret had played a role with. I remembered sitting in my new school in 6th grade and seeing two girls sitting in front of me with this long pretty hair down their backs and secretly I wished they would cut it all off so I would have the longest hair in the class (not a very nice thing to wish for, I know, but I did!). And would you believe it, the very next week both the girls came in showing off their new short haircuts! I will never forget that!
Then I look to my high school years when I was diagnosed with cancer.I now wonder what was wrong in my life that may have led that cancer to grow, what was so off balance – but I still dont know. My parents were scared for my future, my friends didnt know how to react to me anymore, but I was fine with it. I knew deep down that everything would be OK, this would not beat me. I was always just glad that it was me who had it instead of another child who may not be as strong. I went through chemo for one year till it was all cleared up, and now 14 years later I am fine and can appreciate life a little bit more now I think.
Then, to more recent years and car accidents, where two negatives were attracted to one another. I totally see it now.
Last year my sister and I went to a big casino night party at an Elks Lodge where they had casino games, silent raffles, and a big grand prize – a 32 flat screen TV. I told my sister walking in the door, I am going to win that TV, it will fit perfectly in the car! The time came for them to pick the winner for the TV – each person at the event only got one entry. They were all placed in a tumbler and they announced some guy Mike was going to pick the winner. Mike got up to the tumbler and from the back of the room I yelled out Pick me, Mike! He gave the tumbler a few spins, reached in, and grabbed a ticket – in my mind I was saying my name over and over again (mispronouncing it to myself because no one ever says my last name right). Then Mike stumbles over the name, “Sarah .Z ” And he said my name! I just knew I was going to win, and I did!
I try to look at everything in a different way now, and try to think of everything differently so its all positive thoughts to get a positive reaction and hopefully it all works out in the end. I know not everything is going to go my way exactly the way I want it to, but even when it doesnt I dont let myself get upset about it anymore – I just stay positive that next time it will be better, and it usually is.
I just want to thank everyone who helped bring The Secret to me. I know Id been using it my whole life, but its just so much more clear to me now. And every chance I get I spread the word of it, to family, friends, and even strangers. If everyone could change just one negative thought, the world could be a very different place! Good luck to all – and keep those positive thoughts flowing!
