Out of court settlement
Submitted by: Diane Hall
Shropshire, EnglandI am a driving instructor and Thought Field Therapist and have just had my first book, 'L of a way 2 Pass' published to help learner drivers pass their test stress free in fewer repetitive lessons.
I had a car accident in September 2005, and injured my shoulder. When it went to court for the compensation claim, the judge said that my solicitor hadn’t prepared the case correctly and therefore he adjourned it until the correct medical evidence was collected.
My solicitor expected the eventual settlement to be about £3-4000. I photocopied my solicitors letterhead, and wrote a letter to myself (supposedly from my solicitor) saying ‘We are pleased to enclose your out of court settlement cheque for £7000 from the Third Party Solicitors’. I read this letter every day for several weeks and then I received a phone call from my solicitors to say that the Third Party had settled out of court, for – yes, you’ve guessed it – £7000!
I know you have many amazing stories on this website, but it sends a chill down my spine every time I recount this story.
