Don’t Be Afraid To Dream
Submitted by: Kristina
Estonia, EuropeI am a teacher and a youth worker in Estonia. Right now I work in a school as a class mentor for 140 kids. Altogether there are 1300 kids in our vocational school.
I wanted to work with young people as long as I remember. So it was pretty logical that I went studying youth work after high school. After the birth of my child, an amazing and loving boy, I was offered a job in a youth centre. I worked there for almost a year, but I wasn’t happy. The working hours were long, I wasn’t happy with the people who worked in the same building with me, and I was not pleased with myself, either. So I was going to give up the job.
But I was afraid. I was afraid to leave the kids, I was afraid that I was not going to find another job. I turned to my literature teacher from my high school to get some materials for a drama club from her. After telling her how was I doing, she told me to listen to my heart and ask for help. I asked her, from whom I must ask for help?? She asked me if I didn’t believe there was somebody or something higher and bigger than the things we see. I believed always, but I was afraid to ask for something for me because I felt I was not grateful enough. I was not grateful at all.
From that day I decided to leave my old job. I started to thank every day, to be grateful for what I have, and for what is coming. I didn’t have a proper job for three months, but I got several offers to give some lectures here and there.
One day my mum, who is the greatest mum in the world, asked me what job exactly I was looking for. I thought and told her that I dream of a job in school. I want to be a teacher, but not to teach any exact lectures, but I to be a class tutor… only a class tutor. I thought in our educational system it was not possible. But I started to dream about the job.
In a week there was a job offer in the local newspaper: CLASS TUTOR is looked for in regional vocational school. I applied, and guess where I am working right now. I am a class tutor and a counselor for 140 kids from the age of 16 to young people aged 23. I love my work where I can help young people, where I can teach them and they can teach me. I am grateful for the kids and for my colleagues, with whom I love to work. And the amount of money I am earning is growing. Slowly, but growing.
I had no idea of the Secret at the time, I was dreaming out loud my dream. And nor did I understand why the things turned out the way they did. I am grateful!
PS: Yesterday and today there was a big snowstorm in our country, and the house where my parents live (and my family, too) is situated a little bit outside from the town, so the little road going to our house is not cleaned of snow. Yesterday my parents claimed that we must go by bus to work today, because the road is filled with snow. I told them, “The road will be cleaned today.” How, I had no idea. In the morning me and my dad went to work by bus. While in the bus, my mum called my dad and said that somebody has cleaned our road! My dad told me that, being totally amazed and confused. I told him that I knew the job would be done.
By the way, I read The Secret book yesterday.
Love you all!
