Determined to get what I want
Submitted by: Jeannine H.
Columbus, OhioI am a single mother of two children ages 6 and 15. I'm engaged to be married next summer. I enjoy singing, reading books that uplift the spirit, and helping others.
In 2000, I filed bankruptcy. The following year, I was divorced and a single mother of two children. We lived in a small apartment and I did not apply for any credit until four years later.
In 2004 I attended a seminar for home buyers, but I learned my credit score was too low to qualify for a home loan. There was a house “for sale” that I would stop and look at very often. I would look in the windows and imagine my furniture in there. I remember feeling determined that I was going to live in this house (the problem was I couldn’t get a loan).
In 2005 a broker that I met at the home buyers seminar called me and said that he knew someone (a complete stranger to me) who would buy the house “for me” and I could rent it.
I was not concerned with “how” I was able to live there. The fact is I didn’t doubt that I would. In 2006, I became the owner of that home.
