Yellow Dress & Other Nice Things

CroatiaI'm young. A girl. I have a dog. I eat as much as I want when I want. I have a good life. I'll have an even better life soon. I don't watch the news anymore and I'm not embarrassed to leave when people get negative. Also I don't like loud noises and I love pancakes. Oh, and I always have cool jobs where I don't have to work very hard but I get to do cool stuff.
Hi 🙂
Since reading The Secret I try to avoid using certain words, so I hope you understand what I meant to say when I do avoid them in this text.
Even when I was a small child I was a thinker. I had to explain everything to myself or others, rationally, scientifically, or logically, and the things I couldn’t I had my own explanation for. At the time it was called ‘Universal balance’. It might have been a little different from the Secret, but basically it was along the lines of, ‘when God closes a door, He opens a window,’ or, ‘however many unpleasant things happen to you, you’ll get as many even nicer things in return.’
So, like thousands I too am now a follower of The Secret, and I am seriously doing my best to make it a way of life, because I found that I agree with everything I found in those inspiring pages and I had so many ‘aha…!’ moments.
First I must say how I came to have the book. I think it’s interesting because even that HAD to happen. Just like it says in the book, it comes when you need it. I was in the library with a friend who works there, and it was half an hour past closing time. We were the only ones there, when in comes a little girl asking about the book. Her words were, ‘Mum sent me to ask if you had a little book of secrets.’ My friend replied, ‘Oh, I know the book, it’s out all the time, sorry.’ I didn’t have a clue what she was on about, and it was a little bit amusing to me, but I remember thinking how the little girl’s Mum should have known the library should be closed and the only reason the girl could even come in was because I was holding my friend up.
A few hours later I found myself at another friend’s house chatting away, and I can’t quite remember what the topic was but soon enough I started prattling on about ‘Universal balance’, (because it’s a good way to explain how you sometimes get no phonecalls or texts on your mobile and another day you’re swamped, and how there’s always either 5 guys asking you out or there’s NONE, and how I always park right in front of clubs on a Friday night, and why I sometimes spend my money so freely and happily even though I haven’t got a steady job), when all of a sudden she mentions this ‘little book, The Secret’ and I jump up and go, oh my god there was a little girl asking about it and blah blah. She produced the book straight away and I couldn’t put it down ’till I’d finished it! There are situations in my family which I believe could be resolved if only there was a little more imagination, faith, and patience.
To make a long story short, my first and official test was getting The Secret to my aunt, who is a little less well than she should be. It only took about 3 days before she was reading it of her own accord, thousands of kilometers away!!
Next there’s the story of the yellow dress. I saw it on national TV on a young TV presenter/model. Soon after that, I had a do coming up that I needed a killer dress for, and that yellow designer dress came to mind. It certainly was a long shot, but I could only see myself in that very dress and I worried which shoes I should wear with it. I phoned that TV company and asked for the number of their stylist. The stylist said that the dress had been specially sewn for their presenter and she didn’t know whether it could be rented but it was probably back in the shop. The stylist said she would phone the shop to check, but when she got back to me she said she couldn’t get the owner on the phone, only the employees.
After a few days, which were nerve racking because the date of my event was getting closer, and I had no idea what I was going to wear, and nor was I looking, and I had no idea if I would fit into what was probably a dress two sizes too small (!!), I phoned the shop myself and asked whether the dress still existed and if it was possible to rent it. I of course explained who I was and what I wanted, and the person on the phone said, ‘I’d have to check with my boss and I’ll let you know’.
Half an hour later she phones me back and says, ‘You can borrow the dress free of charge, I hope it fits you.’ I travelled 200 kilometers to the shop the day before my flight and felt convinced that the dress would fit me perfectly, but I was a bit jitterish as I was still testing the Secret. Need I tell you the rest, it was a perfect fit and stole the show!!
What we can do is amazing. Just try to remember that every day so many people know this or live this and don’t even know it. Sometimes it’s hard and all our goals are clouded by lowly thoughts and our dreams seem far away, when really they’re even closer than ‘just around the corner.’ So stick with it, believe, or ‘keep it real’ – just do whatever you have to to live The Life You Want. There’s even a song that will help. It’s called ‘When you Believe’ by Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston. I’ve been listening to it since I was a little girl and it’s only now that I understand it. I love it. I might even get a tattoo because I never want to forget, not for one second, but I’ll still have to think about that… 🙂
Love always, R.
