Of Red Ambassadors And Dancing Peacocks
Submitted by: Shivani Dogra
New Delhi, IndiaI'm a 28 year old 'girl' who has many, many dreams to fulfill.
I was going through probably the worst phase of depression in two years when a friend suggested I try reading The Secret. I’d decided against all self-help books and was rather dismissive of this one as well until I read a few pages in a bookstore.
I bought the book and devoured every word of it. It made things so clear to me. But I was still doubtful, so I decided to put it to the test. I decided that I wanted to see something unusual, so I picked a Red Ambassador. Now, the Ambassador is an old car based on the Morris Oxford model, and not very common these days on Indian roads. And a RED one is even more of a rarity. I wanted to see it within two weeks from the date I wished for it. I did all the things the book asked me to do, but nothing happened. Every day I would imagine seeing this car, but there were no results. Then, on the last day of the second week at night when I was out driving with a friend, this burly old Ambassador trundled past us, and it was bright red!!!! I was so shocked that my friend thought I was nuts.
The second thing that I wished for was to see a dancing Peacock. Now you’ve got to be very lucky to see one of those beauties dance. But I did see one dancing in all its glory in the wild. There was no one else with me that day, so it almost felt like it was dancing for me.
These are just the small miracles, but the bigger one is that I haven’t been depressed in two months – A HUGE achievement for someone that was searching so hard for answers and finding none. I have so much to do and so much to see, all of which I was blocking with loathsome negative thoughts and self pity.
To Rhonda and the team, my heartfelt gratitude and thanks – you have done for me so much good that I can’t thank you enough.
I will be back here soon, sharing even greater experiences.
And to all you that doubt – don’t – just believe .
