Job Promotion Chasing You?

This is a long story, but can you believe it? It was 5 years ago – end of 2003. I had no idea what the Secret was, but I happened to have used it in my life.
My parents had no chance to give me money for college. I spend my entire summer vacation after school thinking of the future. I had no idea what I was going to do, I only knew I wanted to live in the Capital city and make a lot of money. I only knew I had no other choice – this was what I needed.
I had some money saved, and of course with some help from my parents, and staying with a friend for a few days, I finally was renting an apartment in the big city. It was a tough time. I changed 4-5 different flats where girls needed a roommate to share rent. I was making money just to buy some food and that’s it. But I was so happy, I had the greatest time. I remember I only knew I would have what I needed, no other way, I had nothing to lose anyways. So many things happened I couldn’t explain. It was like God Himself kept giving me opportunities.
One of the guys I was going out with, not a friend, just a guy I’d just met, practically forced me into a job. He was soo excited about it and wanted me to try too. I started there. Very little money, lots of work, nothing like the dream job. However they were promising promotions if one day they could open another office. This man had me so excited about it, I was probably the only person in that company who absolutely believed promotions and changes would come. He left himself, I chose otherwise. I didn’t talk about it, I just kept working, thinking about it every day.
3 months later I went to see my parents on the weekend. On Sunday I was going out to get on the bus… and had the flu in the morning. I had fever and felt awful, had to stay in bed. I called my manager and stayed in my hometown for the next two days.
On Wednesday morning I stepped into the office with the usual big smile on my face, and what I got to see… 7 names written on the board with huge letters. Everyone was celebrating and jumping around. The previous day the owners were there and had interviews with people to start a new office. They were to make much more money and lead the work at the new project. I just couldn’t breathe for a moment, just stood there, didn’t say a word. Then I said to myself, “That’s OK, they will need more people in the future, just go to your desk and start working!”
The next day came, we were at our desks. The manager of our office came to us and shouted to everybody that they needed a girl in the other office to organize data in their computers. She called in everybody who wanted to go to her office. I went there just to see what it was all about but told her I didn’t want the job. I knew she didn’t like me much, but still… what she did!! So many girls wanted to go to the other office, she picked me and convinced me just to go, if I didn’t like it, fine.
I went to the other office. All my ex-coworkers were there on their first working day and I went to be their secretary. I felt awful. I had an interview with one of the owners. He tried to make the job look better, spoke about it in great words. I told him there’s no chance for me to develop myself at that job, it’s the same salary forever and a kind of work that just wouldn’t be Me. He felt like… surprised, just mumbled that he understands, no work is for everybody and is sorry to make me go there for nothing. I said I was sorry too, offered to help recommend another girl and went back to my office, told my manager what happened and went back to work. She wasn’t very happy about it, let me tell you.
The following day she just came out of nowhere and told me the other office needed some papers and the other owner asked for me to bring it there. I took the papers and went there, and the front desk girl took the papers and said goodbye. I told her then that the owner asked for me to go and that’s why I needed to meet him. I waited a while and was told he’s now available to meet me.
I stepped into his office and just heard him say: “Hey girl, where the heck have you been, why did I not see you on the interviews?” I didn’t know what to say… I was stunned! He then explained he once noticed me in the other office, flying around, smiling, and acting like I was the queen of the place. He thought I had the confidence and team skills for the work. I told him what happened. The other owner stepped in, was glad to see me again. Then I heard: “Do you want to work here, we only hired 7 people, we needed 8.” I was just sooo excited to hear that and just grabbed the opportunity, answered all their questions, asked them about the job… it was great. I asked them when I start. They started laughing and said I was really going fast, was I not, they were going to inform me of their decision in a few days. I said it’s not a problem at all and went back to work.
When I stepped into my office the manager was waiting at the front desk and asked me what happened. I said I was sorry to be late and that I had an interview and in a few days I will know their decision. She replied I was soooo wrong, they weren’t gonna let me know, they already let her know… that I’m starting there tomorrow! We walked in the room and she shouted to everybody that I am promoted. They all had the same celebration for me, it was great! On Friday I was already “on board” as well as the “Big 7”.
Now, 5 years later, I have an apartment mortgage with my boyfriend. “Yeah, big deal” you may say, but in Bulgaria that’s not so easy, especially for a young girl that came in the city with 50 dollars in her pocket. So I am so grateful to God for giving me all these opportunities. For a lot of reasons I am not working in that firm anymore. I had no time to study before and now I am applying for college. Wish me luck on the exam! I haven’t studied for so much time, but I believe I will get in. I also believe I will have a much better job career or even business in the future. I believe I will have a house, a dog, I will be able to help my parents. One day that will all happen, and it will be soon. I am staying home and thinking about it just like I did that summer vacation. (I just realized that) Now I know about the Secret, I believe it even more.
