Sobriety And The Secret.
Submitted by: Kevin K
Chicago, ILMy name is Kevin K, I am a successful hairstylist at a salon located in the southwest suburbs of Chicago, IL. I grew up in Chicago to then, upon completion of high school, move to Florida to work for a huge Entertainment Corporation.
I got acquainted to the party scene at a young age. Working for two very large entertainment companies, the social scene was everything to the employees and performers I worked with. There, I developed unhealthy and what some may call toxic habits that would eventually send my life in a downward spiral.
I had spent two years far from my family in another state. Then about 7 months traveling to South America and Asia touring with the stage show of a popular kids/teen movie that captivated a large audience in 2007-2009. The memories and the stories I have from my experiences in that industry are infinite and for the most part, amazing. The performers I worked with were incredibly talented dancers and I was one of them!
While in Asia, a fellow performer of mine had mentioned reading a book all about living life with gratitude and positive light. The way she described it captivated me. Time had passed, the tour ended and I returned home to the states. I read The Secret and it changed my life.
I quickly began implementing what I was learning about to my every day life. I enrolled in Cosmetology School and had a vision of what and who I wanted to be. A great hairstylist in the city.
I began beauty school and graduated to quickly get hired at a swanky, high volume, salon on the north side of the city of Chicago. I had everything I had envisioned in my mind! I was living in a great apartment with my boyfriend at the time and being trained to be a hair stylist in Chicago! My dream came true, however, I was now involved with a new social life and a new nightlife oriented group of people.
Unfortunately, my addiction to alcohol changed me. It changed who I wanted to be. I eventually lost ties with everything I had taken from The Secret. I was a negative thinking alcoholic who let his demons get the best of him. A combination of a severe drinking problem and an abusive boyfriend resulted in me losing my job and getting kicked out of my apartment.
I began my journey to sobriety one year down the road, with many speed bumps and detours along the way. I was sober, happy, in a committed relationship with a marvelous guy and working in a small salon in the southwest suburbs of Chicago.
But something was missing. I realized I had beat alcoholism and now needed to adopt a new, fresh take on my life. Right away something inside me pushed me towards that marvelous book I had read a couple of years ago. I needed to reconnect with The Secret.
I quickly read The Secret again and was thrilled to find out that since reading this book in 2009 Rhonda had released three more! My current boyfriend and I found ourselves on a new journey of self discovery and the law of attraction. We were growing and becoming better people to each other, our families, and even strangers on the street.
When I started utilizing the practices and way of The Secret, my money increased because I became busier at the salon. I paid off bills and debts that I had acquired while living in the city. My relationship with my family flourished. I realized how grateful I was to have been blessed with a family who stuck by me and supported me even in my darkest days. My partner and I’s relationship reached levels unimaginable, thanks to his strong dedication and admiration for The Secret series, too.
I started to see the world in a new light. Taking the time to stop and soak in every little beautiful aspect of life. Things that were once just a blur, came into focus and I saw good, positivity and light in every person, place, and thing. Things just GOT BETTER.
I have read each book cover to cover, completed my 28 days of gratitude from The Magic and continued to practice it every day since than. My sobriety, combined with my new take on the Universe, worked absolutely magnificently together.
I will never take for granted what I know now, thanks to Rhonda Byrne, and each and every genius who contributed to The Secret series. My mind is clear, my life is abundant, and the amount of LOVE, LIGHT, and GRATITUDE in my heart increases day by day!
I will forever be grateful. My world is a beautiful one.
