A true test

Westminster, MAI'm retired and a stay at home dad. I have an 18 year old son and a 10 year old daughter. My wife is a Vice President with a not for profit long term care company in Boston, Ma.
Near the end of 2007 I was going through what I thought was a streak of bad luck. Every time I turned around my truck needed some kind of repair, an unexpected bill came in the mail, and other things like that.
My family and I had been in our house for just under two years, and although it is a beautiful home, I wanted a few of the rooms painted, and some of the carpets needed to be pulled up because of stains left behind by the children who used to live here.
Just after Thanksgiving, a good friend of mine had given her copy of The Secret to my wife for us to watch. One Sunday morning the two of us sat down and watched it. I was impressed with the movie, and wrote down that I wanted certain walls repainted and other work done so that the house was in the condition I wanted.
A few weeks later and just before Christmas, we had a bad water leak caused by an ice dam on our roof. One of the walls in our kitchen had to have all of the wallboard torn down, two adjoining rooms had to have holes drilled in them in order to dry the insides of the walls out, the rug in my daughters bedroom had to be taken out, and holes had to be drilled in parts of her walls too.
A contractor was contacted along with my insurance company. When I saw the bill the contractor had drawn up, I was shocked. Having dealt with insurance companies in the past, I was skeptical to say the least that I would even get close to the amount the contractor had quoted. I told my wife this was a good time to try out The Secret.
When the insurance company appraiser left my house, he left me with two checks that not only covered the entire job, but my house is now where I wanted it to be when I wrote it down over a month before. The walls I wanted painted were painted, and the rugs I wanted replaced were replaced or were able to be cleaned, and now look terrific.
Shortly after Christmas, my wife received a big bonus (this was a big surprise, because her company does not give bonuses) because of a project she had worked on, and then she received a great raise.
For Christmas, I gave my friend who shared her DVD with us The Secret on CD, and she gave me the Gratitude Book. I also gave my wife the book on CD and I too have my own copy. I tell everyone and anyone who will listen all about The Secret, with hopes that they too can learn from it and have a better life.
