Two Beautiful Births.
Submitted by: Meghan
New MexicoA mother, daughter, friend and spirit.
Shortly before my first son was born, I learned about and was deeply inspired by the power of the mind and visualization.
During my first pregnancy I visualized the perfect birth. I imagined a water birth where I would catch my baby after he began to be delivered.
After about 8 hours of labor I gave birth to my first beautiful baby, and did indeed catch him in the water after my midwife assisted him halfway.
During my second pregnancy, I again remained committed to a water birth however, an ultrasound revealed that my placenta was low and needed to lift up several centimeters before being allowed to deliver naturally. While the natural lifting occurs in 9 of 10 women, I still visualized it happening so that I could be certain of the opportunity to avoid a cesarean.
The next ultrasound revealed that it had lifted some 8 weeks later, enough to birth in the water.
I also visualized this birth being unassisted, with either myself or my fiance delivering our son. After only about 5 hours of gradual and “easy” labor, I delivered my son on my own, in the tub about 30 minutes after my water breaking. Our second very beautiful baby was born.
I realize that there are many different experiences with childbirth, and do not consider my experiences as better than any others. I only like to encourage other women to take in positive images, comments and visualizations to enhance the chance that theirs can be as peaceful and trauma-free as possible.
I thank God for these experiences, for our children, and for the divine power of mind and faith. May these experiences bolster my faith and visualizations in other needed facets of my experience.
