My Hero Today
Submitted by: Margrit C.
SwitzerlandBorn and raised in Switzerland, married at 20 and left Switzerland at 24 to live in England, USA and Germany for 17 years. Back to Switzerland with 2 children and experienced some tough years. Today, running my own business as a personal assistant.
My home country Switzerland hit the headlines once again, but not in the best way.
Another worldwide unique popular vote “against” foreign residents in our country. Today, the world governments and world’s press are attacking “us racists” without even looking closer at the facts. It sucks!
I am reading Hero to get my mind back into a positive state. This morning, opening the book, I read the words: “It’s the mightiest power of the hero to believe in himself” (I am reading the book in German).
Yes, this statement is proof of another important current headline in our country, an absolutely great one: The young Swiss athlete Dario Cologna won the gold medal in skiathlon (cross country skiing) at the Olympic Games, yesterday.
The miraculous part of this victory is that it happened less than 3 months after major knee surgery on Dario, basically an impossible thing to accomplish. But Dario’s milieu (family, friends and supporters) have always believed in him and so did HE, having been critical until the last second, though, modest person that he is.
For me, this is THE TOPIC OF THE DAY, of the Olympic Games! Dario is my HERO in today’s negative whirl about Switzerland. He offers hope and inner strength, as your books do, dear Rhonda!
Thank you for your helping lecture. I read all 3 books!
