$100,000 was my goal
Submitted by: Joseph M.
New York, NYI am a physician working in addiction psychiatry in New York. I come from a family of middle-income earners, where many in our family thought we were cursed and doomed to have terrible lives. I pushed my way through medical school, residency, and now have been fairly successful. It wasn't until after I watched The Secret, that an amazing thing happened.
I come from a middle income family, and had to put myself through college and medical school, accumulating over $110,000 in student loan debt and $40,000 in credit card debt. Over the past two years since finishing my training, I have significantly paid off my credit card debts, but living in NYC knew that owning a place to live here would require $100,000 in the bank, at least! It’s hard to believe, but being a doctor in New York City is like being poor. I don’t know how anyone else can afford to live here.
One day a patient of mine brought me a DVD of The Secret, that someone had mailed to him, and said I should watch it, just from the perspective of being a psychiatrist and in addiction medicine (a lot of 12-step programs are based on spirituality). I have studied Eastern philosophies, and at once, the laws of physics, cause and effect, were noticeable in what was in The Secret. I was really skeptical at first, but when the part came where someone took a dollar bill and with a black marker added zeros after it and then he got more than that in return, I thought, what’s the harm? So I took a dollar bill and made it into $100,000.
A couple years ago, I had been looking at moving home to New Orleans to help my mother who had retired then and was offered a position at Tulane. Unfortunately Hurricane Katrina happened and prevented that. Not more than one month after I added the zeros to the dollar bill, I had emailed Tulane that I was going to be back in New Orleans and wanted to meet to visit with the chairman. I had no intention of moving back, because my private practice had started making money and things were going well. When I got there, he not only offered me a job, he gave me a $20,000 raise and told me the Federal Government was offering incentives to recruit physicians to help the desperately in-need New Orleans post-Katrina. Needless to say, I am about to move to New Orleans again to work for Tulane. This time I was also awarded a $110,000 award from the federal government!!! I have told several people, but figured I should tell the source! The next thing I’m going to do is to frame that dollar bill and make a new one – for a million dollars!
