Positive Thinking.

United StatesAn Indian working woman in the US.
I feel humble that I am finally getting to write down my story. Like a lot of us, I am very lucky to have found The Secret video on Netflix one day while browsing. I wasn’t sure what it was about and definitely had no idea on how my outlook to life would transform after watching this one single video.
I work for a consulting firm that makes me travel to places all around the world for work. I like my work but so much traveling gets on you at times. I am originally from India but right now, as I write my story, I am in the US.
There are two parts to my current story. As I watched The Secret video, I started to force my brain to think positive no matter how bad or uncontrolled the situations were and to express gratitude for all the things I had in life. I have traveled to the States before and each time I come here, I buy the cheapest medical insurance considering that I travel for a few months and not really years. This time around, I did the same and bought an insurance that had the cheapest monthly fee. However, I guess it was high time that I learned my lesson. I twisted my knee and sprained it really bad. It was quite swollen and I even had to stay at home for the initial 10 days on complete bed rest. When I went to the doctor, I realized that my insurance has a very high deductible, and would not cover my medication unless I paid $4000 from my pocket. Additionally, if I have torn my ligaments, I would have to undergo surgery, which will cost even more. The mere thought of paying such an amount of money was scary enough, and then the thought of it being in a foreign country where you have no family or friends really is like a nail on your head.
I decided to stray away all the negative thoughts and tried convincing myself that I will have no torn ligaments. I had already spent about $1100 in getting the initial tests and visiting the physicians. After my MRI, when I went to an orthopedic doctor to show my reports. I was quite nervous but somewhere I had a belief that this would just be a bad sprain and nothing major that would require surgery. And, to my happiness, it turned out to be just that. I had a very bad fall on my knee and it bled internally, but with exercises, it will get better. I still am wearing a knee bandage, but yippee, no surgery and therefore, no more medical cost.
Now surprise news. I get an email from my project leadership that I have been awarded $2500 for my work and that was completely unexpected. Not only did my medical expenses get covered, but I got some extra, too. So believing that everything is going to be fine, thanking for positive things in life and believing in The Secret made everything okay!
Now the second part of the story. I found out that my project is going to extend by another 3 months. Next day, my landlord tells me that he wants to increase the rent by a hundred dollars. One, I don’t like to live with my roommates who are also my landlords as they are not nice people. Second, I don’t want to pay more rent, and third, they don’t even want to keep me for more than two months. I decided to be positive and believed that there will be a solution to my issue. I will find a new place with nice roommates and at a reasonable rent. I didn’t panic and decided to talk to my project manager to see how he might help. I told him that if I was to be extended, I would need a place to stay.
And now I moved into a new apartment. A one bedroom condo, all for myself! And guess what? Zero rent!
The cost will be taken up by the project for the next 3 months. These might sound like little things, but they are quite big when you are in those situations. All thanks to Rhonda and her book The Secret. I know how to turn my life from negative to positive. This definitely is a blessing to anyone who is open to take the first step towards believing in The Secret and changing their life for good.
Thank you for giving me an opportunity to share my story.
