Daytona Beach,FlBorn July 1, 1967, Shkoder, Albanian. Escaped from communist regime on Sept 2,1990, immigrated to USA on March 21, 1991. Graduated with AA degree in business, presently working on a BA and have three more classes to graduate with a BA degree.
After many years and hard work my husband managed to open his own restaurant.
At that time I was stay home mom.
When my children went to school I decided to go to school to become a hair stylist that I always dreamed about. I started working in a salon and a few months later I was promoted to a salon manager.
We thought we both were doing good, unfortunately my husband’s business did not do so good, so he end up closing the restaurant and the salon I was working at also closing down, do to it’s location in the mall closed down. So I ended up going back to college to get an AA degree in GB.
After graduating we moved to Florida. I start working for one of the biggest marketing companies in Daytona Beach, FL, as an administrative.
From this job I was able to rent, and later on, to buy, my dream house. I also bought my dream car, and my husband also got hired at the same place. We were doing great, making good money, living the american dream life.
Then, due to the recession the company closed down, so we both got laid off from work. We lost everything and wound up homeless.
I told myself that since we made it when we came to the USA, and we did not have anything, and did not even speak English, now it is easy to make it again.
When we where sleeping in car/van, I decided to go back to college to get a BA degree, and my husband was able to find a job with a local family that owned a pizzeria.
After a couple months we managed to save money and get an apartment and started over again. At present, I am three classes away from graduating with my BA degree, hoping to find a good paying job and continue to live the American dream.
I always tell others if we could make it, anyone can. Life is like a roller coaster and that’s why we enjoy living it! Things are going to happen in life and you can’t give up, you just have to keep dreaming and keep going.
Just think positive, don’t give up and good things will come to you, especially when you support each other.
Here we are 23 years later, happily married through health and sickness, for richer and poor!
