Thoughts Become Things

Vancouver, BCI hold two Master's degrees, one in Arts and one in Science, and I am currently submitting academic articles for publication in several journals. I am hoping to do a Ph.D. soon!
I was born in South America. My dream while growing up was to study and live in the United States. I have taught myself English, but I was poor and therefore felt that my dream of studying and living in the United States was just a dream.
In 2007, I was an undergraduate student and was about to graduate. I had a dream of pursuing my graduate studies in the United States. Being poor, though, I did not have any money to afford tuition.
I was sitting under a tree one day, and this wonderful English Professor (who did not know me at the time) approached me and asked me what I was planning doing after graduation. I told her I wanted to do a Master’s degree in the United States, but could not afford going to school abroad, and therefore was considering doing something else.
I had been practicing The Secret by that time, and what followed is what I view as a life-changing event:
“Come see me in my office” she said.
By the time she invited me to see her in her office, I felt that my life was about to change.
I saw her in her office and she gave me a list containing names of several professors from American universities. She assigned me the mission of asking each of these professors if they could help me get a scholarship.
“A sign from the universe” I said to myself.
By then, I fully believed that I had been given a gift. The universe indeed was going to make my dream come true.
“Great, in one year from now, maybe 2009, I will be studying in a fine U.S. college” I thought.
I was wrong.
The first professor I contacted (via an e-mail) told me he was ready to hire me as his assistant and that he could offer me a scholarship to pursue a Master’s degree at his university.
“Wow, things are happening faster than I thought!”
Typically, it takes more than six months to take all the entrance exams and have all the paperwork done prior to traveling abroad.
I passed the entrance exams and was able to get the paperwork done in less than six months.
Before 2007 ended, I was living in the United States happily decorating my college dorm and appreciating life in one of the country’s most beautiful locations.
Thank you, Rhonda Byrne.
