The Magic Penny

I was given the book The Secret in the early part of the spring this year from a well meaning friend, after complaining that I was having problems handling my work load. After reading the book I would find myself mulling over things especially while gardening in my backyard.
One day while digging around I found a penny. I rubbed off the dirt and looked at the date and it was 1976. I was disappointed as I was hoping to find a really old penny. However it started me thinking about what was happening around that date in my life. It brought back some pretty funny and entertaining memories.
After my trip down memory lane I thought I would really like to find one of those really big old pennies in my garden. My home is over a hundred years old and I am sure that at some point in history someone must have lost one somewhere and all I had to do was to find it.
I decided to put it out in the Universe that I want to find one of those big old pennies in my backyard. From then on every time I would go out to do some gardening I would remember the book âThe Secretâ, conjure up the penny in my mind and put it out into the Universe. I would think well, maybe today I will find the penny.
But the spring wore on and then summer came and no penny.
In the meantime I purchased the book âThe Powerâ and learned about living life in gratitude and I can honestly say that although I hadnât found that penny I was starting to feel better about my job and life in general.
One day I decided that I needed to get out in the garden and pick up some of the weeds I left lying around previously, as our regular yard waste was due to be picked up the following day. We were having a heat wave and it was really miserably hot but I thought I could manage a quick pick up. I lasted all of about 15 minutes and decided I that one more weed was all I could manage.
I bent down to pick up the weed and I saw something round lying right on top of the ground. Thinking it was maybe a liner from soda bottle I picked it up.
I was stunned to say the least. It was one of those big old pennies lying right there on the top of the ground. I rubbed the dirt off and could make out the word Victoria. I turned it over and it was so thick with verdigris that I couldnât make out the date. I took my penny and placed it on a slice of lemon and worked at it off and on throughout the day.
Slowly but surely the verdigris came off and I could make out âOne Centâ 1888.
Wow, I thought, 8 and 3 are my lucky numbers and now I have three 8s. I now keep my lucky penny in my wallet to remind myself of everything I have learned from âThe Secretâ and âThe Powerâ.
It is not worth a lot of money as a collectable item in the marketplace, but I have to say that to me it is priceless, and pure Magic.
