How I met a model featured in Jet Magazine
Submitted by: Aaron J
Clarksburg, MDMy most undeniable experience with the Law of Attraction came in 1981. I was a junior at Tougaloo College, a small liberal arts school in central Mississippi. I was fortunate enough to be in the concert choir that raised money for the school by touring every spring break. That year we toured parts of the Midwest. Chicago was one of the cities we visited, where we spent two days. Having the first day for sight seeing, we visited a mall on Michigan Ave where we all ate at a cafeteria style restaurant. As I sat at a table with two of my choir buddies, one of the most beautiful women I had ever seen was standing in the food line. My heart started racing. At that time, I was challenging myself to get over being shy. So I would practice boldly doing what I had been afraid to do. In this case, it was to meet and have a conversation with this gorgeous woman. When she sat alone at her table, I told my friends that I was going over to meet her. They whispered instant horror and felt I would embarrass everyone. The more I thought about it, I just sat frozen. But in one swift motion I stood to my feet, and with my food tray gripped tightly, walked towards her. Surprisingly graceful, I greeted her with, Excuse me, I dont mean to bother you, but you are the most beautiful woman I have ever seen. May I join you? She smiled and replied yes.
We instantly hit it off. Conversation and laughter came so easy. After a few minutes, I paused in mid-speech, thinking she reminded me of someone. I said, you know? .naw!. But she was anxious to know what was on my mind. I explained that I had one sole Jet magazine back at home that I had been holding on to. The issue was December 25, 1979 and like most men I knew, the most interesting page to me was the centerfold. I went on to say how that issue featured a woman by the name of Marta Bailey, who wore a bikini with a Santa hat and a gift in one hand. I also explained how she was also in Ebony magazine, featured among the 100 most beautiful black women in America for that year. I explained how I would periodically flip through the pages and look at that picture, thinking how nice it would be to meet her.
The whole time we talked, I didnt think anything of the white jacket and partially hidden name tag she was wearing; she worked at a cosmetic counter in the mall. She gave a broad smile as she directed my attention to the name tag and proudly proclaimed that she was the same Marta Bailey. I cant explain the joy and surprise I felt at that moment. Seconds later, the whole choir decided that she was too beautiful for me to entertain privately as they surrounded the table with hi, hi, hi-ya dos. I was my biggest hero that day. Thank you Rhonda for giving new revelation and intentioned possibility to what Ive been experiencing all of my life. The Law of Attraction is real and now I know to use it on purpose everyday.
