upstate New yorkDivorced for the second time
Getting a divorce for the second time was not in my game plan. But I found myself in an abusive relationship with a man who drank a lot and got very mean and physically violent. I had all I could take within the seven years of marriage, so I made the decision to leave him. I had to get a restraining order, the police had to take all of his hunting rifles away, because he threatened to kill me. When the police removed him from our house, I honestly didn’t know what I was going to do to pay the bills. I only had a part time job, two children, one son 16 and a 6 year old son from this marriage. I knew we would have to sell the house, because my soon-to-be-ex didn’t want it, and I couldn’t afford it.
I started looking for a place for my boys and me. All the apartments in our little town would not allow me to keep our 160lb. dog, who had saved me time and time again from beatings; he was like my third child, my guardian angel! So I started looking for a house instead, not knowing how I would afford one. We looked at quite a few homes but nothing I could see my family living in, until a realtor told me about a house way out of my price range, ($20,000 over). When I walked into this beautiful empty house, a feeling like no other came over me! It was like I was home! I loved every inch of this house, it was perfect…except for the price. I even went as far to bring my parents to see this masterpiece. They loved it too; so did the boys.
Not being able to afford the house, I kept looking, knowing I really couldn’t love anything as much as that beautiful house on the river. I found myself almost mad that I had been shown a house that I couldn’t afford. But I applied The Secret. I would go to sleep every night imagining my family living in that beautiful house; I would drive past it and see myself sitting on its big grand front porch, looking at the river. Then 2 months later I got a phone call from that very same realtor, who said that the owners had accepted my offer for $20,000 less than their asking price! I almost fell over!
Now eight years later, we are still living in this beautiful house, with our dog; my older son graduated from college and moved back home with us; we have survived 3 major floods. Our house has been one of the few that the floods did not touch, when most of my neighbors had water to their first floors, ours only ever getting inches of water in our cellar.
We love our home, and we are still a very blessed family!
