The Secret came to me from the hands of a friend, and after reading the book I immediately put it into practice with amazing results. But as time has passed I’ve been finding my results sporadic.
Knowing that I’m the key to to power I set out on a journey to uncover what it is about me that causes such hit and miss results; I discovered my beliefs.
Following an exercise designed to uncover hidden beliefs I found two key beliefs, both of which have been instrumental in my achievements and disappointments. The first was “I’m supposed to be like everyone else”. This seemed very helpful in certain situations, but it isn’t. After being a real estate salesperson for just three months, I bought my first home, which, at the time was a miracle, due to the state of our finances, but everything that I needed to do it came to me as if by magic and I got my own home. Many times things like this have happened; getting a better job at the same time as friends did, having the dream car turn up just weeks after the neighbors upgraded theirs etc. So you would think this is good; It wasn’t! Now we are in the recession, everywhere I turn I hear stories of hard luck situations, people are losing their jobs, getting further in debt etc. This belief was slowly ruining what I have been creating, we are in a situation now where we are “The Jones”; we have the things others want and I could see that the life situations that others were complaining about were slowly creeping into our home.
The great news is that as soon as I saw that belief, I was able to throw it out and replace it. When I did that, everything about me changed, my thoughts were free, my energy levels rose, even my posture became upright and tall. My new belief – “I’m supposed to be, have, and do what I want”, has lifted me to an even higher level of achievement.
The second is actually a statement I heard on a regular basis growing up, from my mum “If you tell Alice she can’t do something, all you do is give her the determination she needs to do it” This has been a truth my whole life. I’ve used it to get well-paying jobs in spite of finishing school at the age of 14, raising great kids and being an excellent mom, in spite of having my first child aged 16, buying a home in spite of having financial trouble, becoming a butcher when girls can’t physically do the job etc. You may think this is a good belief and you could be forgiven for thinking that, it has certainly been a driving force but it isn’t good. The belief actual says “you give her the determination”. There isn’t too many situations left now where people will actually challenge my ability, not at home, at work or in my social group. Until now that challenge has been the switch that controlled my determination to succeed, I actually believed someone else controlled that switch and lately no one has used.
My new belief is “My fiery determination is automatically switched on when I choose a goal to go after”
Now when I think of what I want in life, there is more feeling behind it, and its more deliberate and purposeful because not only is it solely what I want, but it was achieved with determination and strength.
If you are finding results sporadic then I truly suggest finding out what your core beliefs are, and if they are not completely helpful in all situations, then fix them. You can either replace them completely or re-word them to better suit your needs. I can tell you, getting rid of the beliefs that can only be described as someone elses baggage has left me so much lighter.
I want to thank the team. This has become a winding journey for me, and I have loved ever minute of it.
