Gratitude

South Kingstown, RI52 years proud, college-educated (thanks to my parents!), happily married, 2 steps, 1 grand, 1 dog, 2 cats, lots of friends, own a business 16 years
I’ve struggled for every dime, often feeling that I am working way too hard for the income, but I do love what I do (I own two candy shops for which we make our own fabulous chocolates!) Upon opening the second shop I incurred a lot of debt, and four years later I am in more debt. Debt was all I could think about, and I didn’t want to quit for a number of reasons.
My husband brought The Secret home with a stack of other books he picked up somewhere while I was visiting my family. My father died unexpectedly while I was there, and I came home wondering how I’m to help my mother *and* pay my debts *and* continue to run the shops. I am an avid reader, and I looked to The Secret the way I did the other books in the stack: As an escape from my troubles.
I had no idea!!! As soon as I began using the thoughts described in the book, good things started happening. I pictured in great detail an item I had lost: It turned up in a drawer I was *sure* I had checked three times at least. While I was on my way to the discount shoe store I pictured the pair of winter boots I really needed, and the price I was willing to pay, and found them in my size for only $2 more. The cats haven’t been sleeping with me so last night before I went to sleep I felt gratitude that I would wake up with them in the morning, and this morning it was deja vu all over again–so I gave thanks again!
I have a sizable debt coming due within 10 days, and I’m not worried, I’m happy! I am grateful that I’ll have the money to pay it off AND extra to return to my mom from an old loan my parents had forgiven as soon as they made it AND some extra for some fun. Don’t worry–I know *exactly* how much all that is!
Thank you so much, The Secret commmunity! The Optimist’s Creed helps to remind me, and your shared stories inspire me! I am so grateful for such a great adulthood in which I can do so many things that have always interested me but that I always thought I “couldn’t afford”–ha! Yes, I can!
I look forward to more stories about more happy people.
All my best,
Jennifer
